I love Margaret Atwood, and I did sail through this book, but it is not as good as Oryx and Crake/The Year of the Flood. I felt very confused by the world Offred lived in, and while the excerpt from the symposium on Gildeans at the end offered some answers to questions I had, I still could not understand how the world had "fallen". Definitively the best book I have read in 2012. This was very 1984ish, but in the way of only women being suppressed. And the whole mystery ending, wondering if she would go to jail, get killed or what. I do find sympathy for the Wife though, however in the end, she is just a bitch.
