This held my attention with a good combination of new ideas and standard story telling.
The kingdoms of Hallandren and Idris are historical enemies with a treaty that the princess of Idris will be sent to marry the God-King of Hallandren on Princess Vivenna's twentieth birthday. When the birthday comes around, the Idrian king announces that he will send Princess Siri (who is younger) instead of Vivenna. This comes as a big surprise to everyone, not least Vivenna and Siri.

A bunch of immortal gods run a city powered by colors and breath-hacking magic. A princess gets sent to marry a guy who doesn’t talk, but surprise! her rebellious younger sister tagged along and now everything’s a diplomatic disaster. Meanwhile, a dead guy with a magic sword that really likes killing gets roped into saving the world, even though he’s kind of over it. There's a lot of arguing about who’s in charge, what’s moral, and whether or not wearing bright clothes counts as strategy.
