It was worth the wait but now I want to read some real historical accounts of that time, in particular a detailed account of the civil rights movement. Certainly, the events described in the book are not unknown to me but their relationship to one another has always been a mishmash in my head. I am sorry that I waited so long to read this book. It was wonderful. I did not want to put it down. It was a great story It is a great story of the color divide in Mississippi and a young white girl that was tired of sitting round just watching. She talks with them and hears their stories. She then writes a book about the maids in her community. There is fear, love and understanding all wrapped up in a very touching story.

This book was amazing! It is one of the best books I've read since the Other Boleyn Girl. It was touching, moving, and inspirational. You really feel like you in the homes of the white ladies viewing it through their "help" If you want to know what it's like to be a black maid living in 1960's Jackson, Mississippi, pick up this book.

This was a wonderful book - I love reading about the South, as I know so little about it. It was wonderfully written through the eyes three very different characters and that added so much depth and perspective to the narrative.

As many others have mentioned, the audiobook is outstanding, probably one of the best I've ever listened to.
