It was worth the wait but now I want to read some real historical accounts of that time, in particular a detailed account of the civil rights movement. Certainly, the events described in the book are not unknown to me but their relationship to one another has always been a mishmash in my head. The best depiction I ever got was from Forrest Gump, and I'm not sure what that says about me. This is an amazing book!!! It has all the elements of a good novel in one: humor, love, sadness, scariness, and disgusting-ness!!!:)
Once again, I am disappointed with a book that others seemed to love. First of all, WTF was with the ending? Sure Skeeter's and Minny's parts were all resolved but you don't really find out what happened to Abileen. Another user had mentioned that it doesn't seem plausible that Skeeter, Hilly and Elizabeth were ever friends and I totally agree with that. I think that the message of the book was great but I also think it was way too hyped up.
