[close] Honestly this book was just pick up on a whim type of book but after reading it I felt like I was apart of the story! Suicide and Bullying is a large issue in the US right now and I feel this book should be a required reading for students! This book made me cry and realize that there are people out there who we effect without even realizing it. This book made me want to be more observant of teens out there that show the signs of depression and wanting to commit suicide! I'm going to get this book on tape and listen to it as if I received the tapes and hear her voice... This is a MUST READ for everyone!! Don't take people for granted and treat people with RESPECT this book teaches us a lot while opening our eyes to how rumors can really hurt a person!

meh. i thought hannah was whiny and self-centered, but aren't all teenage girls that way? lots of teenage crap, and some that does not seem real to me-- like, i can't imagine that the police weren't able to figure out that there was a stop sign down, for christ sake.

clay's reactions to the whole thing were a bit unbelievable-- i don't get why he likes hannah, or why they seem to connect-- especially since he doesn't seem to know her very well.

also, i thought the comparison between hannah and skye was really horrible. hannah is the overly sensitive party girl who wants people to chase after her. skye has very obviously removed herself from situations that hurt her. in other words, she's not fucking gullible. and i don't see how clay is going to "save" skye. she doesn't need "saving", she is a lot tougher and smarter than hannah-- when the high school social scene hurts you, you withdraw, plain and simple. you focus on the future, instead of offering yourself up for ridicule to the same shallow self-centered people over and over again. duh, hannah.

clay has some serious mental problems if he thinks he's going to be every girl's "savior", and i hope that skye punches him in the face and tells him that she's not hannah and is perfectly able to take care of herself, thanks.

also, WTF is up with her going to the guidance counselor to talk about her emotional problems? seriously, who the fuck thinks the guidance counselor is there for that? NO ONE. your guidance counselor is there to tell you what classes to take and to help you figure out if you need to go to community college/college/trade school/etc. i knew that in high school. the guidance counselor was not there for my emotional problems, and i would never have expected one to fix everything for me after giving a vague description of the problem. jesus. it's like hannah wanted to be put on the rack by the spanish inquisition and tortured until she talked. she deliberately misleads people so she can commit suicide and then blames shit on others. whatever. ...more

This was a very fast read and I really enjoyed the format of the book. I was not sure how I would feel about a book revolving around teen suicide but I think the author handled everything very well. Hopefully teenagers are reading this book and will think twice before they act, realizing that every little thing they do to someone can effect that person's entire life. ...more

Wow! I actually couldn't put this book down. It's a very poignant book about one girl's suicide and how many things - things that her classmates and teachers do or say (or don't do) - snowball to her decision. Kids can be cruel. I remember being picked on in school and being told by teachers/adults I just have to toughen up and take it - to just accept that some people are assholes and we will always have to deal with assholes so I just better get used to it. A very real look at the snowball effect that could happen in someone's life...and how easy it might be to stop something horrible. The reality is we usually let things go by, thinking that other will do it or that we don't matter...but EVERYTHING we do does effect others...EVERYTHING.

Re-read this from 5\12\17-5\27\17. Just as good the second time than the first. Now to watch the Netflix series. ...more

I'm not sure. The story is believable and so much if it happens everyday, and I think that is the worst part for me. We are not always kind to each other and we often never stop to think how that unkindness leaves a mark. I wanted to read this as just a reader and despite my best efforts, I read it as a mother and the tears are for our littles ones who might suffer one day and we might not ever know. ...more
