Based on the Afterword, where she discusses her background and reasons for writing this novel, the author meant this to be a serious spy story. To me it seemed more of a parody. "Pucci" (named for Puccini) Lewis goes through spy school in only three weeks, during which time she learns how to break into locked offices, how to open and decipher coded messages, how to create an alter-ego, how to use numerous gadgets, and how to kill people.
