[close] Another great offering from Hosseini, this time chronicling a fractured family across seventy years and three continents. It doesn't quite reach the level of "A Thousand Splendid Suns" (my favorite of his three novels) but is at least on par with "The Kite Runner."

One cool aspect is that each chapter is told from the perspective of a different character, lending the book a fresh/surprising feel throughout.

Tales of Afghan woe and happiness are woven across a non-sequential timeline with great skill. Hosseini has delivered another great novel.

This book was read with a book club and the insightful conversation it sparked lead to a five star rating. I loved the story and the many different characters. At times unsatisfying because stories didn't end how I may have liked, it felt natural and was a good indication of the choices people have to make between wrong and more wrong. ...more

Wow....what an amazing storyteller! I loved his varied characters and how they all fit into e story, though not always at first glance. I am so glad to finally have a
A book of his that I can read....I have heard his other books were equally as amazing...but had many disturbing events which make me nervous to read. This story was delightful and heartwarming.

As expected, the lyrical quality of the stories and the voices of the intertwined characters within "And the Mountains Echoed" is enthralling and deeply moving. I adore Khaled Hosseini's writing and his insight into a culture that is often misunderstood is invaluable. I read this as a library book, but it is definitely one that I look forward to adding to my bookshelf. ...more

Beautiful writing and storytelling and I like how the characters were connected. That said I found it lacking in character development as there were so many character that I was left wanting more. I also found it at times difficult keeping the stories straight and remembering the connections. I liked this book but loved the other 2.
