Liked it. Liked how Junior's account as a 14-year old boy living on an Indian reservation really brought to light many of the hardships so many Native Americans face - poverty, alcoholism, death, etc. Liked how I could laugh about the way he recounted some of the situations he faced, while being touched at the same time. In fact, there was really nothing wrong with the story to give it only 3 stars (liked it) other than the fact that it was just tough for me (as a 40 something year old woman) to ...more

I am glad that I finally got to this book. I have been putting it off for sometime and finally got to it. I really enjoyed this book. I did not want to put this book down at all and whenever I saw it sitting there I wanted to pick it up and finish it, but sometimes life gets in the way.

The way the book was written in first person like the Junior (Arnold) was taking to you. I think that if fist person is done well enough like in this book the character becomes real. You laugh, cry and relate to

I really enjoyed this book. Perhaps it's partly because of where I grew up. I laughed, I cried... It's a great look at social situations, the crap life throws at you, and trying to find out who you are in a world that's less accepting of those outside the "norm."

This book was fantastic! It really made real and laid bare many of the issues of high schoolers today, as well as issues among Indian reservations in the West. I loved the cartoons intertwined with the story that added so much and gave us a glimpse into the mind of the main character and how he was dealing with his emotions. Brilliantly done.

A really easy book to read bc in some way we can all relate to Junior's struggles to become independent, yet still remain connected to his family and the world he knows. It is a great book to teach kids that they don't have to stick with what they know, they tremendous options in front of them, if they aren't afraid to work for them. ...more
