I picked up this Hugo award winner because it shows up on so many lists - best sci fi, best of the 20th century, books everyone should read at least once – and I have to say it’s a book I’ll just be reading once. My high-school Latin wasn’t up to the task - it's heavily used throughout the book - and I found myself reading Wiki translations as much as the book itself. How sad is it that a book written around the 60s could still be so very relevant in this day and age? As I read it, I felt that I could relate to it very much. It echoed the sentiments of the past, present, and unfortunately, maybe even the future.
I felt a bit of hopelessness, admittedly. The times may have changed, but man, sadly, is still the same. Still competing, arguing and making wars and killing innocent people and children. And for what?
Do we even take the warnings of the past seriously?
