I'll keep this simple. This is a great addition to the series. If you know Dresden then it continues much of the same. Great dialogue, awesome insight, witty banter and a way of writing that makes you feel a part of the man. You become attached to Harry's plight and his issues. At times when he speaks on aspects of the human condition, I found that I could relate. Example at one point when he's speaking about love, life and pain, I felt that pain. Annual re-read. Love them more each time I read them.
Did I mention that I am hooked on these? I read the first 6 last week and I am now on book 9, Small Favors. Butcher is a genius. Action, adventure, characters familiar and fun, humor, sarcasm. loyalty, friendship, pets, these books are some of the most rip roaring fun I have had reading in a long time. After what felt like a very slow start to an interesting story, things finally started picking up about half way through the book. Mouse & Murphy were my favorite characters through most of the book, followed by Ramirez. Harry and Thomas rose in the ranks towards the end. It was an interesting story plot, that answered a few questions, but seem to lead nowhere in particular.

This was a good book. The primary focus is the Vampire War. While exciting, I wasn't as happy with this book as others. There is no clear case. I find the reconstructing ghouls to be unrealistic. This seemed more a 'bridge' book than a story all of its own.
Reread: Still enjoyed. Same review. :) ...more
