Ann Rule is one of my favorite true crime authors, and I enjoy reading about serial killers so this was a no brainer choice for me. However, I chose this book because I had heard she started writing it before the identity of the killer was ever discovered, and that she knew him personally greatly added to the story in the second half of the book. Even though Stephen G. Michaud referred to her in his book as an "old lady with a big imagination" I think it's actually genuine, excellent writing skills and Ann managed to tell the story in a more personal and less judgmental way (since she was his friend).

This was my very first Ann Rule book. I loved it so much that now I'm committed to reading all her books. She is a very good writer and for me, I like the "why is someone the way they are" and the mindset of these people.I like Ann Rule books because they are not all focused on the horrible details of how he killed and what all he did to these poor women down to the last detail. All of her books that I have read so far are about the victims and the killers lives when they collide.
