ETA: 2.17.15 - Rereading again for BR in M/M Romance group. Blood Nation stories, how do I love thee.

I will say that it's not without its flaws (view spoiler) but this is my third time reading and I can not put it down.

I don't I have much more to say compared to the other reviews for this book. This book was addictive and not being able to pick up book two immediately afterwards was like going through withdrawals. Nothing else would do for several days afterwards. There is no "downtime" where you can comfortably set it down and do something else. It is an amazing story and I can't wait for the next one to come out. ...more

I can understand how certain concepts in this book could be off putting to some folks, but somehow it all worked for me. Key issues became less concerning as they were explained later in the book. The paranormal aspect of the story was quite unique and inventive – and I loved Nightshade! The more I read, the more I was really sucked in and invested in the outcome. I wasn’t quite expecting such a cliffhanger at the end, but regardless, I’m definitely curious enough to read the next book.

I was dragging my feet while reading the first half of this book - not because it wasn't good but just because I wasn't in a reading mood. And then about the half way mark there were all these unexpected events that hooked me in and I couldn't put it down.

Unexpected vampire story. There are probably some trigger items for some readers - forced sex, kidnapping, etc. - but that really wasn't a problem for me.

But I'm definitely getting the rest of the series.... Here I come Cinder! ...more

I hate cliffhangers, and this one has a doozy. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Cake and look forward to future books by Ms. Snake. There's just something about her characters and their struggles that's so appealing. ...more
