It's sometimes too verbose for comfort. Why the 4 stars? I like the world she has built and it's interesting parameters. So I will probably buy the next book in the series and roll my eyes at that one too.

I unfortunately read books 3 and 4 of this series before I read Jacob. I only say "unfortunately" because I had missed a great read and a lot of background material.
Franks is a great new voice in the paranormal field. The world of "Nightwalkers" she has created is fabulous. Jacob not only is a great love story told with both passion and humor but lays the basis for the entire "Nightwalker" series. The first of the "Nightwalkers" series. The story of Jacob and Isabella. This is a different "paranormal" universe than the usual fare as it centers around demons. I found the beginning sluggish, an over usuage of the word "mate".
Usually a book of this size I can read in an evening or two and this took me about 4-5 as I kept putting it down. But it did get better and I'm glad I kept reading. There was enough character developement of the secondary characters that I look forward to reading their ...more
