"Bullet" was all the good things I like to see in an "Anita Blake" book, and some.

1. It was home in St. Louis, because - aside from "Bloody Bones", "Blue Moon", and "Blood Noir" (all "B" names - weird) - all of the out of town books seem to be lacking something.

2. It included the fullest cast list we've seen since (at least) "The Harlequin". And most of those cast members had more than a walk on role.

3. It was heavy on vampire and furry politics, and light on federal marshal duties.

I swore to myself I won't read anymore of the series after I read the 17th book, but then I came across the cover for the 20th and read the synopsis and the wheels in my head went "assassin, Edward and Olaf, good book, the best book since it all went to hell... have to read!" and so, there I am like 2 days later after I read the 18th, which wasn't bad probably cuz Richard and all the annoying people didn't have enough pages to make appearance, but when I moved to the next one it was an ok maybe I swore to myself I won't read anymore of the series after I read the 17th book, but then I came across the cover for the 20th and read the synopsis and the wheels in my head went "assassin, Edward and Olaf, good book, the best book since it all went to hell... have to read!" and so, there I am like 2 days later after I read the 18th, which wasn't bad probably cuz Richard and all the annoying people didn't have enough pages to make appearance, but when I moved to the next one it was an ok maybe until Richard showed up!
It's like I have an allergy to his character. Every time he's there I get irritated and just want to drop the book and never pick it up again, probably in my whole lifetime. Yeah, I went only 1/5 of the book and stopped.... I'll try to make myself finish it. Perhaps by doing a combo of a really good romance or urban fantasy book with this one.

*finally finished reading*.... okay... this might be the worse book so far...
One thing is that a lot of pages went to the opening, with intreducing every character (the norm) and that dance performance, and then the so called "fight" with Asher...
Killing Haven was sad, and I really liked him (who could not like him?), and the after though and all gave some depth to the book, but then the author goes and brings it back to that (ero)..
If you thing about it, Anita turned into something really close to a whore but instead of money she gets power, and I'm sure that in the definition is someone who does it in exchange for gettting something.
So Micha chooses another person who she's gonna sleep with, in the same day that she killed Haven and I donno about other people but I think there should've been more resistense.
So anyway, she sleeps with that one, and on the way Richard and Jean Claude, and I really hated that part. Sure Richard has been like that probably sincce the beggining, but not JC! And it's like she was okay with that.. well not me! I would rather it be a reverse harem! Plus near the end of the book Anita kind of? does a girl herself...
And if that isn't reason enough to hate the book, then there wasn't any action except killing Haven. Also no mystery or killer to find. AND! the plot of the next book probably started in this one, cuz the next is about assassins coming to kill Anita, and well some already appeared here.. ...more

I first read this in 2011 and decided it was time to reread this addictive series.
Asher is threatening to take his were hyenas and become master of his own territory. He is pissing everyone off. If all the were-hyenas leave, Jean Claude (Master of St. Louis) will lose 1/3 of his guards and it would be easier for him to lose a challenge to his territory. Richard (leader of the werewolves) hears rumors that Narcissus (leader of the were-hyenas) is bragging that he and Asher will take over St. Loui I first read this in 2011 and decided it was time to reread this addictive series.

Right now the wolves are. Richard has always been difficult, especially when it comes to being a blood donor to one of the vampires or having sex with a male. He offers blood or sex to Asher, his choice, if he stops his plans to take over St. Louis. After Richard apologizes to Anita, Jean Claude and Asher showing his therapy is working, the sex party starts. Asher (who loves BDSM) is chained up, unable to touch anyone. Jean Claude and Richard take turns flogging Asher. Whoever is not flogging is having sex with Anita. Suddenly they smell flowers. Belle Morte (she changed both Asher and Jean Claude to vampires) and the Master of Beasts appear metaphysically. They try to take over the St. Louis leadership gathered in the bedroom and they are using Mommie Darkest's power. Everyone thought she was dead when her sleeping body was found and burned. St. Louis prevails. It seems other Masters tried to use Mommie Darkest's powers to take over other U.S. Masters. Talks start that maybe the U.S. needs a Council like Europe has and they are considering Jean Claude as the leader. Haven is a werelion who moved to St. Louis from Chicago. He became Rex of the lions and wants Anita for his queen, but he is jealous and does not want to share. He claims lions don't share. A fight begins and Anita is forced to end it. The weretigers who have had sex with Anita have had an increase in power for themselves as well as their groups. Some of the tiger groups want Anita (who holds several animals within herself, but does not shift) to become Master of the tigers. She holds several different tigers. The golden tigers were always the elite. Anita has Micah (Leopard King to Anita's leopard queen and one of her main lovers) to pick out a couple of golden tigers and she will choose from them. She chooses Mephistopheles and gives a female to Jean Claude and Richard to have sex with. Anita invites Asher to the bedroom, Micah and Nathaniel also join Anita in the bedroom. Mephistopheles knows of Asher and finds his scars fascinating. He has to touch them. It turns out Devil as they decide to call the golden tiger shares very well. Later at a formal party Anita proves that she is indeed now the Master of Tigers. ...more

OMG...I can't believe how much I missed this series, Anita and her men. And all her men are back...thank god...I've really missed them. Let me tell you it sucked me in and I rode it wave after wave of...Laurell hit the mark, I was so worried that she would be off traveling somewhere and there would be no Jean Claude, Asher, Micah, Nathaniel, Jason, you get my meaning. I plan to re-read it because I usually miss something when I read her books, there's so much going on and I'm so eager to get to ...more

I really give it 3 1/2 stars. I loved it! Except for those loose threads always left hanging in any story. But MUCH IMPROVED over Blood Noir, which was a MESS and a waste of a great idea,IMO.
