Thank you to Mary Porter for recommending the audible version. Through that I realized my translation was super difficult to understand and was finally able to make my way through this epic book. I’ll be working on the next 2 parts of the trilogy in 2023. Penguin classic is a great translation I had first vintage translation I believe which was much harder to get through.

Singrid Undset is a masterful writer. The way she draws you in to the emotions that Kristin is feeling is amazing. I feel the passion and then the guilt and weight of the sin. This is not a feel good book by any measure. But, it is a worthwhile read. I cannot read the rest of their series fast enough. I’m waiting for the consequences and hopefully the redemption of the Kristin and her husband.

She meets an older man, Erlend, plagued by scandal, and falls in love. Their love story seems to be ill-fated from the start. Catholicism had recently made its way into Norway around this century, so the book ...more
