Thank you to Mary Porter for recommending the audible version. Through that I realized my translation was super difficult to understand and was finally able to make my way through this epic book. I’ll be working on the next 2 parts of the trilogy in 2023. Penguin classic is a great translation I had first vintage translation I believe which was much harder to get through.

She meets an older man, Erlend, plagued by scandal, and falls in love. Their love story seems to be ill-fated from the start. Catholicism had recently made its way into Norway around this century, so the book
