The back of my book calls this Cather's unchallenged masterpiece, and I need to be convinced... :) I think Shadows on the Rock and Death Comes for the Archbishop are still my faves. But this has all the elements that I love in Willa Cather's writing, and it has so much to unpack that I wonder if I will like it more and more after book club discussion and after sitting with it for a while. ...more
