This followed a format I see often among non-fiction narratives: a few pages of tense or developing narrative followed by 2-3 pages of "technical aside." Like how these five people struggled to escape and help each other, then bam 2 pages about building codes. Then some pages about a particular fire crew, followed by 2 pages on NYC rents.
Oh well. I guess there isn't a much better way to do it.

Instead of looking at the tragedy as a whole, this journalistic account focuses on the individuals inside the towers. Minute-by-minute the books chapters progress from the initial strike, to the fall of the towers. Instead of playing the political blame game, these accounts are much more graphically charged descriptions of the victims.
