36500 days ago, doesn't seem like a large number in the digital age, but in days it measures 4 generations back, in a place that could be wordsmithed into a fictional 'alternative universe', and most current readers would not be the wiser. An excellent read.

Immediate disclaimer: I am no fan of military history! But Tuchman has such a reputation that I finally picked The Guns of August from my long-delayed to-be-read pile. Despite Tuchman’s crystal clear writing, wit, and organizational skills, I was less than enthralled by this detailed examination of the opening of World War I. One of the best books I've ever read. Tuchman took on one of the most challenging exercises for a historian, clearly explaining the origin of the First World War, and produced what is, in my opinion, one of the best works of history ever written. This book is clear, concise, and well-researched. The characters are written with such detail and personality that this book reads like a well-crafted novel. It's no surprise that it won the Pulitzer. Excellent book.
