Maude Julien's memoir is a stunningly cruel book. Her parents' torturous treatment of her seems, and may have been, criminal. I am very impressed that she is a successful professional women. I listened to the audio version in the car. Hearing the descriptions of abuse were difficult to listen to...occurring day after day after day, year after year after year. I wonder if her helpful music teacher had experience with extreme abuse. He was quick to spot it and create a plan for Maude, while manipu
