What Members Thought

This book had a lot of potential, but I felt it fell short of my expectations somewhat. Like all Phillip K. Dick's books, it was thought provoking and perfectly captured 'realism in unrealism': that is, characters who are very human, despite being present in a world foreign to our own.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. For most of the book I just wasn't really invested in any of the characters. The story also didn't feel very cohesive. Some of the writing is fantastic though (like the part where Tagomi is having his existential crisis), but the overall book didn't come together for me. It also just sort of felt like the book ended without resolution - like someone called "Time!" and PKD had to hand over his manuscript right then.

It is a very odd book. Looks absolutely nothing like the Amazon series ads. It's much more of a thought piece than a story, but something about it was captivating, most of the time. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, but the fact that I'm still thinking about it means something at least.
