What Members Thought

I thought this was a great book. I love how J.A. Konrath writes. He moves effortlessly back and forth in time and it's so amusing if you've read most of his books. I loved skinny Herb and how he explains who was actually to blame for his future self. I missed Susie Breck and Dick Hill. They mastered the accent so well that it was like not having Jack there at all. If you want to read this book because you love the larger than life characters from the Jack Daniels series, know that they are bare

I've read a few Konrath books and have enjoyed his work. Unlike his other Jack Daniels books this had less humour and thus appealed to me less. Reading the author blurb at the end I realise now why: this wasn't really a JD book, she was just in it. Definitely more of a noir thriller, but not what I expected.
I guess the 3 stars is because I was disappointed and expecting more, but this is a solid book, well worth a read. Just don't make the mistake I did in thinking that this was a Jack Daniels b ...more

Callbacks. We’ve all seen them used effectively in film, writing, even comedy acts. The creator/author/writer plants a seed early on and then circles back to a seemingly insignificant fact later on. This is the trademark of great mystery writers. It’s a gem for series writers, and it’s even used by musicians from time to time.
Imagine being a writer and getting a chance to revisit your old work, and to add a new element that creates a callback to everything you’ve done in the last seven years. Th ...more

... so Joe Konrath is one of my top authors AND the Jack Daniels series is of course right up there as well. That being said, I was excited to finally read this one, but as I got into the story, I found nothing familiar of the previous books. Herb was thin. Jack was a supporting actor. No Harry. No Mr Friskers. pffft
The story did keep my attention and I liked it. But I was destracted by what I thought should be there, and wasn't. I missed the old gang. As I neared the end, I ...more

this was a good book that was about Jack Daniels but told from a "bad guy" Tequila who I quite liked. Great mini story about her that you can read without having read any of the other books in the series but if you have read the other books, you will chuckle a little bit when you read things like, "herb, you are too skinny" when you know he's now huge lol...

"Tequila, chased by Jack Daniels." Loved it!
This book has really got me thinking...lately the books I love and rate 5 stars are $2.99 ebooks that have never been traditionally published and all the NY published books I read are getting 3 or 4 stars when I'm feeling generous. To me that shows how out of date publishers are. ...more
