Review to come soon. Holy crud - that was good. I've read a few of Sarah Dessen's books before, and for some reason "The Truth About Forever" completely flew over my head. Well, in the interest of some of my fellow readers saying the equivalent of "READ THIS NOW" - I figured why not and checked it out of my library.

And I ended up relating to it because it takes place in the aftermath of the MC recovering from the death of a parent, but there's so much more that I liked in the measure of the read ...more

I really enjoyed The Truth about Forever; I was hooked from the first few pages, I love Sarah Dessen’s writing. I really like Macy as a character, I was able to sympathize and ‘feel’ how she felt. I really really dislike Jason. He is so perfect, so perfect that it’s too perfect. The thing that annoyed me most about him was how he and Macy are together yet in his emails he speaks so formally. It’s like he doesn’t feel anything for her, he may care about her but he doesn’t seem to reach out and s I really enjoyed The Truth about Forever; I was hooked from the first few pages, I love Sarah Dessen’s writing. I thoroughly enjoyed the bit when Macy quits her job at the library. All her life she had to act the perfect one. She tried to be perfect for Jason and perfect for her Mum the only person she wasn’t being perfect for was herself. When she quit her job I felt she really grew as a character. She took a step off the edge not knowing how things would turn out, after being so used to control and routine it was nice to finally see her do something for herself.

I was so glad when Macy and Jason decided to ‘take a break’ Macy is defiantly better off without him. I did go into panic mode when she receives that last email with Jason saying he wants to talk. I had doubts that Macy would go back to him, just because he was the easy option. The whole ‘let’s make a list about what we want in a relationship’ made me laugh. Jason manages to make everything seem logical and boring. A relationship should be fun, you should love being with that person, he makes every moment with Macy into a judgmental, I only care about myself thing. Poor Macy no wonder she kept to herself for so long; she had no one to open up to. Jason practically ran in the other direction when she wanted to tell him how she felt. She could never open up to him like she does with Wes.

Wes was my favourite character. He was a breath of fresh air for Macy, a breath she certainly needed. I loved how they played ‘Truth’ He learnt so much about her, I also loved how they got along so well. Wes was able to listen and actually hear what Macy was saying. Wes seems to know more about Macy after a few months than Jason knew in a year and a half. Wes allowed Macy to finally say how she felt, like in the hospital Macy was finally able to cry. She got to let it all out; I love how Wes didn’t say anything. How he just held onto her and let her cry.

I don't know why I waited for so long to read this book. I stayed up all night reading this without feeling like dozing off. It's the first title that I read by Sarah Dessen and I'm impressed. It's fast-paced and I can't help but love the characters. Now this is one of my favorite YA books ever. Looking forward to buying and reading the Sarah Dessen boxed set before the classes resume. ...more

I still do not know how I have yet to review this book. I read it way back in the 7th grade and I've re-read it ever since I got the Gift Set in 2009. It's one of my two favorite Sarah Dessen novels (you can read my review of my other favorite, Just Listen, here) and I can never seem to get enough. There's something about a Dessen novel that just screams Summer so ever year, I have to indulge in the world she creates, re-living summer vacations through the fabulous characters she brings to life. In The Truth About Forever, Sarah Dessen introduces us to Macy Queen. After the sudden death of her father and the consequent issues with her mother, Macy has become a shell of a person. To make matter worse, she's got a job at the library she doesn't want given to her by the boyfriend who asks her for a break through AN E-MAIL. GUYS HE IS NOT A NICE GUY. *ahem* But Macy has to keep her cool and make sure everything is going perfectly so that there isn't a rift anywhere. So seeing this girl so scared to leave her shell slowly open herself up to new experiences, new friends, and a new her was so refreshing. The slow process was kind of sad to see but it was also wonderful. She's gone through so much and all I wanted was for her to be happy. Macy is such a strong girl who feels as though the whole world is her's to perfect and seeing this change. So seeing her come to terms with what happened to her father, how to change her relationship with her mom and sister and her growing feelings for Wes makes The Truth About Forever an absolutely amazing book.

Now if you couldn't tell from the paragraph above, Dessen knows how to write one heck of a character. But it's not just Macy's character that Dessen wrote to near perfection; it was all the supporting characters. From Macy's mom, her older sister Caroline, Wes, and all the people with the Wish Catering, they all had their own personalities, dreams, wishes, and just ways of being. They were so natural and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. All of the moments Macy had with her family was just as poignant as the time Macy spent with the Wish people and with Wes. I really appreciate that when it comes to a Dessen novel, family and friendships never take a back seat. Instead, the romance usually comes around the familiar and friendship relationships.

But of course Wes had to have his own paragraph because he's fabulous, flawed, sexy, sweet, wonderful...and the list goes on. But seriously guys, Wes was just what Macy needed. Trying hard to be the man his mother wanted him to be, Wes was always true to himself. A truly flawed guy, Wes never let this get in the way of anything. He's made many mistakes in his past, some of which has lead to trouble with the law, but at the end of the day, Wes does not let this define him. He is his own man and I absolutely loved that about him. But the best part? It wasn't Wes who helped Macy become true to herself but Macy herself. I loved that the guy doesn't come around just for the sake of the main character.

This is the second book that I read by Sarah Dessen and it my favorite so far.

The things that I liked:
Characters
I loved the Wish Catering Crew. Every time they entered the story I was just loving it and when they weren't I wanted to rush through the book until they entered again. So basically only wanted to read the parts that only had the Wish Catering Crew in it. :)
