What Members Thought
This was an interesting read (and although its showing the SF masterworks cover - I did choose the Gollancz Yellow Jacket edition) as part of a run of classic titles I decided to embark upon. There are as I say much better reviews on this book what I will say is that this is an intriguing book which took a unique concept and turned it in to something quite different. A friend recommended this book to me, so I had high expectations. Sadly, this book was a miss for me. First, I don't know if it's a translation issue, but the writing felt really clunky, and the dialogues were stilted and artificial. It also reads terribly misogynistic; the only female characters are the main character's wife and prostitutes. The characters were flat, with weird behaviors, and no one was likable.
