A very engaging book, I read it in a few hours on a very cold Sunday afternoon & evening. I didn't want to put it down. Historically, it is set about the early 19th century during Napoleon's reign. Told from the POV of a British sea captain, but the twist is that dragons are a part of the war effort between the two. Our captain/hero gets caught up in that part of the war.

I love dragons now. This book was pretty spectacular in ambition and execution. I never thought I would ever read a book about dragons during the Napoleonic Wars. I mean, seriously, dragons that talk & dragons as weapons and sentient beings during the time of Napoleon's attempt to conquer Europe. It just sounds so... weird. However, the way Novik re-imagines history in this book and integrates dragons is done so smoothly and well that it just works. Loved this.
