I could not get into this one. Gave it 100 pages, but the characters weren't developed (and I didn't like any of them). This one is HARD on the science (physics), and I just felt like I was trying to wade through it instead of enjoying it.

This book wasn't exactly bad. I just remember getting very bored with all the life details presented here. I have a vague intention to go back to it some day and finish it, partly just to say I did and partly to give it a fair chance. My experience of it is now connected in my head with my experience of Zodiac by Neal Stephenson, so maybe it's the scientists/science fiction writers writing environmental thrillers that I'm not liking so much. Greg Benford is probably right up there with Clarke as one of the best 'hard' SF writers of all time; he is a Physics professor at UC Irvine so his novels seem to have a greater plausibility and realism to them than other
