This book was super-hyped, and I was worried... I will say that in its favor the pretty prose never got purple but it also couldn't really make up for a flimsy plot line--i think the pg-13 rated single sex scene might be enough to send some repressed literary types into happy twitters sort of like how The Time Traveler's Wife worked with porn compensating for blah prose, but the romance felt a little tacked on, and while I was never bored, we were miles away from catharsis.

This book is magical. It certainly contains a few strange ideas, but that's part of the charm. It has a different and original approach to the possibilities of magic than most books, while at the same time being quite a good novel with real human emotions. I would recommend it.
