2.5-3 stars - Paranormal/Mystery/Romance
I struggled with how to rate this one. There are some intriguing aspects of the story, but it really dragged at times and could've used some editing. The relationship between Matthew and Diana lacked authenticity, emotion, and passion, and their romance was honestly pretty boring to me. I know a lot of people really like this series, but I felt underwhelmed. I'm not sure if I have enough interest to finish reading the series or not, but the TV series looks ...more

Reread this for the first time since since 2011. Once again I listen to the Audible version but I bumped the speed to 1.3x and Diana sounded way less whiney. This time I view her more as a spoiler brat. I’m still not sure how spoiled brat=bravery but the fact is is still dislike Diana, her attitude, her lack of curiosity pisses me off. I still view the romance with Matthew as just a little too precious.

I love libraries! I've experienced wandering around and had a book title just sort of leap out at me. So when the story starts out in the Oxford tombs with a manuscript appearing to young scholar Diana Bishop, I'm hooked. Diana is the last in the line of distinguished witches. Unlike ...more

i just finished this one and found the other 2 are also available. so my next step will be to snarf them up as fast as possible!
why? because it is a cliff hanger with wonderful writing and a really good narrator!
normally i dislike series books that have to be read in order but this is one is worth it! it has all sorts of .... weirdness (for lack of a better word). when the region is ruled by women, things are generally run well. when it run by men...different story. want to guess the sex of th ...more
