Just re-read this yesterday. What a knockout book!
I didn't remember anything about it, but as I read it this time, I would remember as it unfolded!
I have been to Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch, NM. I have driven some of the roads described. I went up up a 3' wide trail that was straight up on one side and 900' straight down on the other.
This is a great book for experiencing that vicariously. In extreme.
On top of there are moon rocks, dinosaurs, and horses. Quite an adventure
