This story of the life of Black Elk, focusing on his mystical visions, seems to be taken from his book, Black Elk Speaks, which I read years ago. He describes how he first heard the "spirit voices" when he was 4, and talks about how they influenced his actions throughout his life. As a child Black Elk had a vision of a world that was united. Later in life he became a holy man and was greatly respected by his people. The book follows his life through childhood, teenage years and then into adulthood. The reader learns about Black Elk's vision and what he sees and learns as he grows older.
