What Members Thought

I really wanted to review this book after I read it but there's just not enough time in the day to get everything done and now it's been too long since I finished. So just a few short comments: I really loved this book. Great characters, great storyline. It really sucked me in from the first page to the last. It came across to me much more like some of NR's great older books than some of her good-but-not-great newer ones. It's definitely one I can see rereading, which hasn't been true of most of

I really liked the characters. Eli was really good. He goes from being a kicked puppy to a man who believes in himself and is willing to stand up for himself. And Abra. She was a woman of all trades. Literally all of them. ;) I could see a bit of myself in her... not TOO much, but a bit. The field I find I'm passionate about is NOT the one I have a degree in... And I like the cook. *shrugs* I wish I was a bit MORE like her... more nurturing like she is.

Wasn't wowed by this one. Felt a little that the overall plot line and general idea had been done before and because that felt it was a little flat. Although I enjoyed the characters and their personalities if it wasn't for the characters this would have been a DNF for me I feel.

This book kept me guessing -- the reader knows that the main character, Eli, isn't the murderer -- but who is? Toss in a sexy courtship between Eli and neighbor Abra and a really cool house that has been around since pre-civil war and you have the makings of another Nora Roberts hit.

I loved the setting for this book. The lighthouse, bluff house and even abra's cottage. I could definitely live there. I enjoyed a male lead with some damage to him. Hey, we're not perfect. We all come into relationships with baggage. Eli and abra had a lot more than most people, but that made me connect with them more

I'd give it a solid B. I enjoyed The Search and The Witness much more. The characters fell in love too easily, and never had any really interesting conflicts between themselves. That said, it was an entertaining book to read with plenty of Roberts' trademark humor. Good book for people who are already fans, but not one I'd recommend first to a non-fan.

I love Nora, and am pretty happy with all her books. I really enjoyed the characters in this one - especially Abra! - they were really well developed and interesting to read about. I did feel like the "mystery" part of the story felt a little forced, but still found it pleasant to read.

This is the first time I am going to comment on when I think Nora Roberts used filler in her novels. Not as bad as others, but she did have a tendency to repeat the obvious in this book....that I don't ever remember her doing. Still her writing is better than most and still a fairly good read.
