This is the second book in the Vampires in America Series. But it is really the second half of a romantic saga that includes some very mean criminals, vampires, self centered characters and two strong, individuals who have had very painful paths.

Lord Raphael is the Master Vamp of the West Coast area. He is ruthless, more vampire than human and isolated. You never want to cross him or let him down. There are no second chances. He avoids humans and controls his area with 5.0 Stars!!!

Lord Raphael is the Master Vamp of the West Coast area. He is ruthless, more vampire than human and isolated. You never want to cross him or let him down. There are no second chances. He avoids humans and controls his area with an iron arm. The Master vamps around the USA don't like each other much, don't trust each other and each have enemy's which they must always be looking over their shoulder at. They don't apologize for being the Vampires they are. No Whining about their lives here. Rather feral, determined, powerful, rich, slick and ruthless. Lord Raphael is royalty and is also handsome, silent, devious and dangerous.

Lord Raphael hires Cynthia Leighton, a human PI, trust fund baby, to find his sister in book 1. They find themselves playing games with each other, teasing, lusting and falling for each other as they find Alexandra. But Raphael walks away from Cyn in book 1...determined to forget her. He has never been under anyone's control and that includes humans in his five hundred years as a vampire. Cyn is a strong, tough-as-nails PI who doesn't annoy you when reading the book. You find that you admire her and wish you could be more like her and step into her shoes. No whining here either. No crying about how horrible her life is. She is so down to earth and real. When ever any of the characters in the book start whining....she tells them to get with it and knock it off. (In her words of course.)

This book takes Cyn to one of Raphael's enemies, hired to find a teenage run away. But Jabril, a vampire evil, pig of a man is really only determined to steal this Cyn from Raphael and hires another PI to find him....who is a man and much more qualified to do the job in Jabril's opinion. What Cyn finds out is that she is in over her head. The girl she is looking for ran for a great reason. Jabril is after her money and to destroy her as he has already done to Elizabeth's older sister Maribelle.

Cyn, with Duncan's help is able to steal Maribelle out of Jabril's territory and get back to California while she searches for Elizabeth. Raphael and she start back down that uneven, uncertain road of regret. Neither wishing to bend. In the meantime, Raphael is being pinched as a mass murderer-young homeless women are being found drained and dead around the city. Cyn goes to work to help and assist the vampire community as well as Raphael to solve that mystery.

This book sees the romance of Raphael and Cyn come full circle with one of the most satisfying declarations of love I have ever read. And of course with any D.B. Reynolds novel, as soon as things seem like they are all battened down....something big happens. As usual these books are full of explosions, blood, fighting, guns, anger and scarey situations. GREAT book...Excellent Story...on of the best series out there in this genre. ...more

The second novel in D.B. Reynolds' Vampires in America (VIA) paranormal romance series and a direct continuation of Raphael. Though the title 'Jabril' refers to a key vampire lord - the 'big bad' of the novel, the main focus is on the vampire lord Raphael and his human mate Cyn. As such, it contains big spoilers for 'Raphael' and readers who skip the previous novel will miss out on key information and character development.

Although this book is entitled "Jabril" the villain of the piece, it really is Raphael, part 2 the continuation of the story of the vampire Lord, Raphael and the fiesty PI, Cynthia Leighton. Plenty of action, humor, and some sex. Many of the main characters from the first book are back, and some new ones. This book is about Lord Jabril. He's ruthless & brutal, and hires Cynthia to find a missing person for him. It's the human sister of one of his vampires. The sisters are trustfund rich and come into much of their money when they turn 18.
