Better than most of the Nora Roberts I've tried lately. The relationship isn't fully plausible but it has its fun moments. A little angsty but Eve has some depth, even if its a bit stereotypical. Going from three stars to four because the mystery and the end explanation is clever. Full review soon.

This was SO good. I found myself sitting in my car a few extra minutes because I wasn't ready to pause the story yet. The story was engaging and the narrator, Susan Ericksen, did a fantastic job. As usual, I'm late to the goodness of this series. Better late than never! Review to come.

I had read 1 or 2 of the In Death books about a decade or so ago, and while they were very good, having read the first book in the series really added depth to Eve and Roarke. I look forward to re-reading those previous books, as well as the entire series, and really seeing the character and relationship development of these two.
Great first book to a series. Well written, intriguing, easy to follow and progressed steadily and nicely.

Murder mystery set in the future (2058). Once I got over the shock of a future world, the mystery and romance captivated me.
Reminds me of Rachel and Trent in Kim Harrison's The Hollows series, but without the magic, Eve Dallas is a tougher and smarter detective then Rachel is a witch, and Roarke is more sweet and sexy than Trent.
Likes:
* Beautiful and tough thirty something, Lt. Eve Dallas
* Eve's appreciation of coffee
* Mavis Freestone, Eve's one-time arrest turned friend
* Roarke, mysterious, pow ...more

I have been meaning to start this series for a while now. I have read a few of Nora Roberts books in the past and had liked them, so chances were good that I was going to enjoy her writing under the name J.D Robb. And I was correct.
I mean whats not to like, we have a psychological thriller set in the future, yes there is "romantic" moments, well to be honest there was sex and the build up to potential romantic relationship. It's the year 2023, guns have been banned and are illegal, prostitution ...more

Review that follows is from 2009 - my 1st read.
The female detective is gutsy and tough. The time is the future and someone is committing murders with old fashioned guns. Can she stop the murderer before he gets the 6 he claims he will kill? Is she seduced by the killer? Will she lose her job or her objectivity on this case? Or maybe her life.
Loved the book and was thrilled to see there is a series. Another new series to look for and read (or is that devour?).

A wonderful, suspenseful series with a heroine as kickass as Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake!

I don't know what took me so long to start this series, but I am not a huge fan. Yes, its true and only after reading the 1st book in the series.
Who in there right mind wouldn't want more Eve and Roarke.
She alone is so kickass and take no prisoner, that you can't help but to root for her and his definitely fits right in with her personality.
He doesn't judge her, he just accepts her for who she is and falls in love with her flaws and all.
