4.5 stars. I'm not quite sure why it's not 5 stars, but I think it is because it is a little sleazy and I'm not sure that is necessary. Dead Until Dark is a cute, clever, entertaining and sexy romance, maybe a little too sexy.

This is another really good vampire series that has become crazy popular and the HBO series has not hurt the popularity of the book at all. I have read the books and I have still been able to enjoy the t.v. show because they made it very obvious that the show would be going it's own way from the books. This series revolves around Sookie, a small tall waitress who just happens to be a telepah with fairy blood that's like catnip to the recently outed vampires. I have relatives who live in the ArkL

An amusing read. I don't know why I put this off so long - all the surrounding hype & my general dislike of all the vampire stories that were around at the time, I guess. This does seem to be Twilight for adults but not nearly as wet. Sookie isn't a helpless female, although she is incredibly naive, unbelievably so given her own abilities, & stupid at times. Well...what's to say? It's very similar to most Girl Meets Vampire, Girl Falls In Love with Vampire, Girl Wants Independence But Yet Yearns For Vampire in Shining Armor type of novel.
At times very annoying. Other times downright hilarious (Bubba...Elvis gone vampire - when he crossed over he didn't come over "right".) It's the story about the "gifted" waitress Sookie that befriends a Vampire, in a world where vampires are acknowledged legally and are living among humans trying to "mainstream" that is to blend in with them.
She encounters some adventures, some deaths and a lot of fun..
It was a fast fun read that put a smile on my face, well actually made me grin like an idiot in a room fun of people.. I loved it and will be continuing the series as soon as I can. ...more

What a big surprise this book turned out to be. I loved it and really didn't think I would. I love when a book wows me and makes me want to keep reading. I would recommend this book but beware it is nothing like the Twilight series in case you go into thinking the way I did (I LOVED Twilight)but I didn't want a knock off version of it and it is mystery and romance. Great book.
