After the nasty ending at the end of Hard Bitten, Chloe Neill had a lot of explaining to do!. I was quite surprised that we actually got a resolution by the end of Drink Deep.

Ethan is dead. Even though this is exactly what I wanted from book one, it feels like a scape goat. Now Merit can finally grow as a character and the readers can truly get to know her. Sure there's a lot of Ethan moaning and groaning. It also infuriates me that Merit couldn't be a character because she was so far up Ethan's butt that she couldn't be strong enough on her own.

Sure there's a lot of Ethan moaning and groaning. It also infuriates me that Merit couldn't be a character because she was so far up Ethan's butt that she couldn't be strong enough on her own.

Jonah and Merit's relationship is amazing! Jonah is the male candy that I have wanted for Merit to have from book 1. He's smart, funny, he is THERE for Merit, and it's clear that he genuinely cares for her. (Plus, so far he doesn’t have the totally wacked up vampire baggage that seems to come with the fangs.) In Jonah's hands Merit is growing and I love it, he's not over powering her.

The apocalypse is happening and the reason behind it was one of the worst apocalypses ever. Certain Cadagon vampires should have known what it was that was causing all of it. They were protecting the freaking item for goodness sake! Also, I wanted to know how the person who stole the item even knew it was there to be taken. It never fell together.

The apocalypse was fun. It allowed the books to explore sorcerers, fae, water sirens/nymphs, and some alternative myths. The GP vampire in charge of the house was a great plot show and tell for readers to see how corrupt the GP really is. It was great feeling the rage and rallying over the injustice of it all. The build up for a real adversary in Mayor Tate is awesome, as well as the development of the office of the Chicago supernatural Ombudsman.

Character development . . . er, I don't think Neill knows how to do it. Mallory changes so much and it never feels real. It's so sudden that the big plot bomb (yeah, another one!) was so obvious that I was annoyed the series was even going there. Oh, and the major plot bomb of the last book is simply taken back. Oh, and the whole Catcher thing in this book was awful. There were some tender moments and than some mood swings so big that I just couldn't believe it.

This series both thrills and teases me, and drives me bonkers! Even though I want to give up on it I just can't stop. Neill's writing is too addictive! I keep crawling back for certain reasons, and now that Jonah is going to be a recurring character I have to know what happens to him. Merit's latest relationship may annoy me with the dramatic short cut it took, but I am there.

Sexual Content: Plenty of sexual humor and some bedroom time.

3/5- Adored it, just a few minor details held it back

My god...my heart is still beating out of my chest...
Riveting...shocking...amazing...gut wrenching...soul deep...magical...
I soooo loved this book. I have to admit I couldn't have guessed what the outcome would be but Chloe did not let us down...
Merit is my hero...
I love all of the characters...I feel like I know them...and if they were real; I'd want to know them.
I wish I could say more but I refuse to ruin the experience for anyone. Trust me people...this is a must read...

First off I'm going to say I did really enjoy this book, but didn't feel it was as good as the rest of the series. it definitely had the feel of a filler-in storyline until the author could get back onto the path she really wanted to take. Bit like Red Riding Hood's diversion through the forest on the way to her grandma's house.

This book involved a lot more of the supernatural communities than previous books - the nymphs were back, the siren of the lake appeared as did the Queen of the Fairies. First off I'm going to say I did really enjoy this book, but didn't feel it was as good as the rest of the series. it definitely had the feel of a filler-in storyline until the author could get back onto the path she really wanted to take. Without giving too much away (I hope) Chicago is falling apart. The river and lake have both turned black and have stopped moving. Then the sky turns red and violent, throwing out lightning and thunder frequently. Huge mountains appear from the earth all over Wrigleyville and all the humans can do is blame the vampires. They don't even have the knowledge that vampires do not wield magical powers, let alone can make things happen this badly. I had a big feeling about who might be causing all this and did change my mind a few times, only to come back to the same conclusion. Shame it took Merit far too long to work it out - she might have saved the day a bit earlier then!

At the same time as all the this happening to Chicago, Cadogan House is falling apart bit by bit under the rules and regulations of Frank Cabot, a representative from the Greenwich Presedium, sent in to investigate the house after the death of Ethan in the previous book. He pushes everyone to their limits and it all looks very very bleak for the house. Merit doesn't know what else to do and relies on Jonah, the captain from Grey House, to support her in her investigations.

I loved how Merit developed in this one. She remains strong and loyal to her house and to her heart. Jonah tries to make his move on her, but she's determined not to move any faster than she feels is necessary. She knows her and Ethan didn't have long together, but still loves him and cannot betray that love no matter how attracted she might be to Jonah. With the House being under the restrictions it is and with the lack of guards, Merit has to learn to stand on her own two feet, something she fears but soon overcomes.

The ending was brilliant and not something I was expecting after what Catcher did (I missed the naked Catcher images in this one as well). Chloe Neill has finally found the right path again and I can't wait to see how the next book pans out, even if the ending was a bit too quick for my liking. ...more

Well after the shocking ending of the previous book, this one takes things even further than you would expect and it is nice to see a series going outside the norm. Crazy things are happening in Chicago and Merit and Jonah need to find out who is responsible as the vampires are being blamed by the humans. Plus Merit has to deal with the GP representative making extremely stupid rules for the house. The end brings some really good news and some really bad news for Merit personally.

I don't know if everyone was blind or in denial in this book. All signs lead in one direction and no one seemed to see what was happening or who was responsible until it was almost too late.

I still like the series, usually due to the character and world building, but this one was just not up to par like the ones that came before.

Such a sad beginning, but such a happy ending. It ends setting up the next book. What a twist with who caused the problems in the city. I Look forward to the next book and how the relationships develop. Plenty of changes in this book to many characters. Big changes happen to Merit, & will probably happen in the next book too.
