OMG...what a fantastic read. This series just keeps getting better and better. I loved Sophia with her strength and determination and her love for Colin. I loved Colin just a much for the same reasons. But let me tell you folks Raphael was off the charts; damn I can't even put in to words what I felt for him. I've always had a soft spot for him but now...all I can say is WOW! Of course Cyn was present and you have give the girl props. She's tough as nails and when she's injured by some dip shits ...more

packed full of action and mystery. Great new characters, and plenty of the regular characters. This book starts as being about Raphael and a few of his vampires being killed while asleep. He heads to Seattle with his people to find out what has happened. There we meet Wei Chen (head of Seattle area) and some of his people. Then we change venues and the story is about Sophia and her headed to Vancouver, and dealing with Lucien (her sire) disappearing. Eventually the two issues tie into each other ...more

Sophia comes to Vampire Lord Lucien's Canadian Territory not knowing if he was there or not. Three vampires under his protection are dead and it's his fault they are dead. Lord Raphael awakes angry and grieving that two of his own children are murdered in their sleep. Another vampire's mate was brutally attacked three days later also during the daylight hours. While I like this series, I have to say I was quite disappointed in 2/3 of the book. Why? Because it was full of Cyn & Raphael with very little Sophia. Complete with the same exhausting argument and the shut up sex. I like them fine but truly believe if there wasn’t much to say about Sophia, she either should have had a shorter book or no book. (rant over)

For the mystery du jour, someone’s killing vampires in the northeastern territories! Is it human, animal or vampire? Sophia’s been summoned from her home in South America to meet with her master Lucien in Vancouver and finds Lucien missing and she ends up working with Raphael to unravel this mystery. Discomfited and uncomfortable, Sophia’s next shock is that her feelings about the local “law man” haven’t dampened in all the years they’ve been apart. Colin, a former SEAL has separated from his southern roots to distance himself and heal the emotional and mental scars from serving in battle zones.
Quite a bit about Sophia was easily gleaned from the details of Sophia’s life and lifestyle – Colin was more of a mystery and not as accessible. I liked Colin immediately with his southern charm and strength – Sophia took a bit longer for me to warm up to but when they did get together……As usual the story was well plotted and although I felt had more Raphael and Cyn than I would have liked they made sense for the story. The story itself was quite good with bits of suspense and mystery and heavy on the paranormal intimacy and romance, some of which felt like padding. I also hated the cover art here. I also liked that Sophia is one of the few female vampires we’ve met in this series so there was a lot riding on her shoulders here. The action set pieces were well orchestrated as well.
At the end of the day I still wasn’t certain how I felt about this entry into the series. The book itself was quite enjoyable as were the characters and storyline – I just would have preferred less Cyn and Raphael being forced to me under the guise of intro to one of the few female vampires in this series.

Awesome series, Cyn & Raphael are great characters. But what I love the most is that it is written in the third person. I am really sick of books written in the first person. I hate being limited to one person's thoughts and emotions. ...more
