The beginning of this book was a little hard for me to get into, because it was so long since I'd read Divergent and Insurgent. I was playing catch up with the characters and trying to recall what I could. I think the reason I waited so long was that I learned of a certain spoiler that I'm sure a lot of people have heard of by now. If you haven't you've been hiding from the internet for a very long time. I don't even know how you're reading this. Spoilers usually don't deter me from reading, because while I knew what was going to happen I didn't know the how of it which is important.

I was disappointed in this book for so many reasons. I really enjoyed the first two in the series, and I really wanted to enjoy this one too. My lack of enthusiasm could be from the fact that I probably waited a good two years before reading this, or from the fact that it just didn't feel like the other books.

Tris and a small group of her friends are contacted by a rebel group brewing against the rise of the factionless called the Allegiant. They are recruited and asked to seek information outside of their "city". When Tris & co. leave they discover so much more about the world outside of the factions. But to me it wasn't exciting. It didn't feel riveting and unique. There wasn't anything that was surprising or mind-blowing. It was very ordinary from what I've read of other dystopians. Maybe I just waited too long to read this and I was tainted by other novels that presented something more to their worlds.

I was disappointed in the how of the spoiler, which probably isn't a spoiler anymore. It didn't feel true to the character or justifiable. I don't feel like there was anything significant gained from it happening.

Overall Allegiant was lackluster and it didn't feel like the ending of a series, if anything the series could have been expanded more, but it felt like there just wasn't enough time for that. Maybe Roth really didn't know how to end the series, so she did the best she could. At over 500 pages I expected a thorough and complete resolution. That's not to say there isn't an ending, or that major conflicts aren't tidied up, it's just that none of it felt satisfying. I had no particular feelings of joy when finishing the book, like a I normally would at finishing a series. I was just happy I could finally cross it off my TBR. ...more

3.5 stars. Sort of reminds me of The Maze Runner when they escape their experimental environment. Allegiant was not as compelling as the first 2 books in the series, but it was a decent final book in the trilogy. (That doesn't mean that I liked the end or you will either, but it made sense.) Definitely my least favorite view of Tobias.
