I started this book over 20 years ago and made it to page 128 before setting it down. I'm happy to have picked it back up and made it through to the end as the last couple of pages made for a very satisfying ending. Although I loved the richness and craziness of the characters, it was a bit of work to keep everyone organized in my head, especially since so many people shared the same name, and I should have just made a copy of the family tree at the beginning of the book so I didn't hav ...more

I know Gabriel Garcia Marquez is supposed to be this classic author, but I just can't get into his books. I did enjoy this more than Love In the Time of Choleria, but it still took some effort to get through this one. If it wasn't for his mundane mentioning of the fantastical, which kind of took me by surprise and made it a bit whimsical, I might have put it down. ...more
