Easy to read! Eagleman's conversational style not only makes the book informative, but also a pleasure to read. If you wanting detailed explanation of what part of the brain does what, you may want to look elsewhere. This is more of holistic look at how the brain operates below the surface of our conscious selves. He explains how much of the brain's operation are beyond our control but yet still provides a major influence to who we are and how we behave. Very good book, but not Gray's Anatomy. ...more

Fascinating premise on the unconsciousness of the mind and an enjoyable book. I like David Eagleman's narration. Last chapter delves into Philosophy of Mind and understanding emergent phenomena like consciousness through an appreciation of its many layers of complexity. I found myself hoping Eagleman would make strong claims on these intractable problems of mind as a dramatic ending to the profundity of the foregoing, but his moderated conclusion did fit with the theme.

first serious book I've listened to on audible
has some good studies from neuroscience
presents point of view about legal responsibility
not sure what he is suggesting at the end as the solution to complexity

Incredibly interesting, especially because the writer is so obviously passionate, enthralled by and in love with his subject matter. I'm not typically a non-fiction reader, but some of this stuff reads like magic anyway, so I didn't notice the change.

After reading this and the author's fiction, Sum, I'm convinced David Eagleman is one of the most fascinating minds around. I'm even a little jealous of the people who get to converse with him on a daily basis.
