ജയമോഹന്റെ 'നൂറു സിംഹാസനങ്ങൾ'. ജാതി എന്ന ചിഹ്നത്തെ സമൂഹം എത്രത്തോളം മനുഷ്യനിലേക്ക് അടിച്ചേൽപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് വരച്ച് കാണിക്കുന്ന നോവൽ. അത്മകഥയുടെ രീതിയിലുള്ള ആഖ്യാനം. തമിഴ് സാഹിത്യം പോലെ ചെറിയ വരികളും, സാധാരണ പദപ്രയോഗങ്ങളും. എങ്കിലും മനുഷ്യനെ ഏറെ സ്പർഷിക്കുന്ന ദുരിതത്തിന്റെ ശക്തമായ ഭാവങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞൊഴുകുന്ന കഥ.

'Shocking narrative' would be a lesser description. I would have said the casteist mindset of the people of India that has been mentioned in the novel is a mere exaggeration some time earlier. This is one of the books I finished in one sitting. Not because it is a small book of 100 pages. But, because this is one story that tears your heart open, bares the innards, and makes you question one's own humanity. Humanity, and not religion.
The story is painfully beautiful. It will move any stone-hearted person to tears. It will dive deep down into our conditioned beliefs and shake its very foundation.

Now I understand what privilege is
This was an eye-opener. I cannot think about our society the same ever again. It pains my heart. But even that ability to feel sad feels like a privilege.
