I'm not sure if I had read this as a child or just caught one of the many adaptations. I was somewhat familiar with the story, but didn’t remember much of it. I can see where many of the Young Adult books are borrowing from this with the lack of adult supervision. However, in this case it is because no one wants to be around these unpleasant children. In the end they rejuvenate the garden, the family, and most importantly themselves. Definitely more of a coming of age story than many others I ha ...more
