Holden Caulfield hates you. I figure Old Holden hates me too. I was reading this book about old Holden, The Catcher in the Rye. If you want to know the truth, it wasn't very good. But I don't feel like discussing it. Don't ever read it. I mean it. It'll make you hate yourself.

I read a review that said if you identified with Holden Caulfield you believe that Salinger is a genius and totally gets it. If you do not identify with Holden Caulfield you do not like this book. I really wanted to like this novel. I see the title and J.D. Salinger's name quite frequently. I feel like Holden is a spoiled rich kid that has had life handed to him and he has no idea how to deal with life. He wants to say that everyone is a phony, but in reality he is the real phony. Eee-gads! Maybe I'm too old at 34 to appreciate the dysfunctional attitude of the main character. I found this a tough one to finish. Yuck!

Trying to read more classics. While I enjoyed reading what i'd heard about so many times, this book left me with a big "Meh!" when I finished. Funny in places, but an incredibly abrupt end, and a rambling plot. I guess I leave this to those that like to ponder what the sub-plot/hidden meaning to it all is. I'll move on to the next classic!
