I enjoy reading Erik Larson's work and I have been interested in finding out about Nazi Germany, however, this book was just okay. There were many characters to keep track of while reading. Larson chose William Dodd to be central character when he really should have chosen Martha Dodd, his daughter. I would suspect that Larson didn't think about writing from her perspective, but this was really her story and not her fathers. What I really learned from this book is how we, Americans, can overlook

This depicts Germany just as Hitler is taking over the country. As with every Erik Larson book, it is highly researched and very well written. This book depicts how frightening it was over there wherther you were a German or an American. I liked the book just like I have liked his other ones. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
