What Members Thought
I read this book as part of a book club for work, so I don't think I would have usually picked it up on my own. But, I was pleasantly surprised. I rated it 3 stars but I really think it deserves more of a 3.5. At times I was a little bored and struggled to get through it. I'm also not a huge fan of Civil War historical fiction, but Perkins-Valdez wrote from the perspective of a slave mistress wonderfully, getting into the very souls of her characters and making those souls speak.
