Great characters and interesting world building. I like pretty much everything about the book except the photographs, which seems to be a highlight for most people. If Riggs would have used the images as the chapter art it would have been fine. However, he would describe a scene and then the next page would be the picture he just described. Seemed lazy and unimaginative. I liked the images, but didn't need all of them. Eh, small complaint. I look forward to the follow-up.

Great book! I can't wait for the next one. The characters are very well written. The visual imagery coupled with the creative descriptions of the photographs is great. Although it is an very well paced action adventure, it is also a well honed search for the meaning of truth. Just as the photos aren't what they seem neither is the truth. I very much enjoyed the audiobook version of this book, and got into the story. It felt fresh and intersting. Likeable characters and I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I didn't care for the cover, but was hearing great things about this book. I am eager to carry on with the series.

I think if I was in more of a reading mood right now I would have rated this book higher. It's a quick read full of peculiar children and monsters and contains some interesting photos. It looks like a movie is in the works and possibly more books.

Too slow for my taste in terms of getting to the action. Way too drawn out. I couldn't finish it and stopped at Chapter 5. I just didn't care what happened to this kid - or his grandfather or his father for that matter. I thought the peculiarities were too contrived and not sure how they really served the plot other than to simply want to be odd. Oddness needs curiousity and character attached, otherwise, it just doesn't serve a good purpose for me. The mystery just wasn't there.
