This would not typically have been a book I would have considered based on the cover or title, but I was looking for books my son might possibly read. After reading this I don't think it would be action packed enough for him. However, I really enjoyed this book. I think Mr. Haddon did an excellent job of protraying the complexity of one autistic mind. I'm not sure I've ever read emotional detachment explained so well and that really made the book for me. The main characters intellectually explains love and emotions, along with facial expressions even though he doesn't actually relate to them and I thought that brilliant.

He is a huge part of the story going on inside the novel and yet outside of it almost as he sees the facts of what is happening but doesn't understand the feeling and emotions that it brings up in others. Told from his point o

It wasn't what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it! A simple, straight forward narrative yet still profound. It's interesting to think about the struggles this family experienced behind closed doors. How every family has hardships that the rest of the world may not fully see. I'm glad the ending wasn't too over the top. ...more

I will be honest this was a bit of an awkward read - the chapters are prime numbers. The main character, Christopher, has Aspergers and sees the world differently than most of us especially the little details. I have a greater appreciation for teachers and parents of special needs children. While Christopher is highly intelligent those around him have to conform more to his needs than their schedule.
