Shelves: fantasy, kindle-unlimited, reverse-harem, uf

I enjoyed it, but the second one was definitely the best of this trilogy. Here were the snags that led to me knocking it down a star:

1. The lead characters did some shockingly stupid stuff in order to serve the plot.
I'm never a fan of TSTL, but it particularly irritates me when otherwise sharp, smart characters miss obvious stuff in an out-of-character way in order to further the story. There were a couple of cases of this, but the most egregious, to me, was (view spoiler) I enjoyed it, but the second one was definitely the best of this trilogy. 2. Eve became really melodramatic in this book.
Other books have been blessedly short on martyr-ish declarations that all of this is her fault, and they'd all be better off without her. This book, sadly, is not so short on that shit.

The thing about that crap is that authors always seem to feel it makes the heroine compassionate, but really, it just makes them look like narcissists. Taking on responsibility for actions you had no part of and no input on doesn't make you look sweet, folks. It makes you look egotistical, as if you imagine the entire world revolves around you. For example, in this book, we're told that X character was followed to this super secret location where they are meeting. Not even a page later, Eve is angsting that everyone in this place is being exposed to danger because of her. Hey. Were YOU followed, dumbass? No. Like 10 seconds ago, it was made clear who was followed her. So how about you back the fuck up, okay?

She also became a bit of a liability in bad situations, which was odd. This is a woman who stormed a base in Thailand with the backup team in book 2, and didn't flinch about it. Here, there are a couple of times where things are going down and she becomes a ball of shock and panic and quivering legs. It was odd, because she's been in some serious shit in the other books but we've never seen her react that way.

3. Oddly, some big stuff happened off page.
I say oddly because this didn't happen in any other book, and I'm not sure why it happened here. I think to give more room for the sex scenes - there were much more of them than in previous books, and while that's to be expected (because the slow burn has finally fully caught fire), I'm not a fan of sacrificing plot to make room. I can only think of one example off the top of my head: (view spoiler) But I know it was more than once, because at least 3 times I thought I mis-clicked my kindle and skipped a chapter or something, and flipped backwards only to find that I didn't. It made for an oddly choppy narrative.

That all said, things resolved nicely, and I really enjoyed the story as a whole. The wrap-up and epilogue were a bit fast, and I'd love more detail, but it did feel like it covered all the bases and I wasn't left wondering about anything major.

Thrilling finale

My reviews for the last two books were quick because I have do do the whole rate and review thing before I can return it for the next one on KU (so unfair right). I loved this series from about three chapters into the first book and read the Trillogy in a day. The journey the characters go on- both the adventure and the emotional ones- are really well done and engaging. I was on the edge of my seat about Alec and 'the words' constantly.
