In her debut RH novel, Ms Kemp tackles time travel back to ancient Minoan (think like Bronze age Greece area) civilization. She writes the history accurately, I mean, I probably wouldn't know any different, but its so fluid I would believe anything she wrote honestly. It was like stepping back in time with the FMC. I loved this.

I have never read a time travel book, let alone a RH one. Nor am I a history buff of any sort.. so grain of salt…

To start, it was a little slow, but I find it always is with any book because it’s all about an info dump to set you up for the main story and to help you start caring for the main character.

I loved this.

To start, it was a little slow, but I find it always is with any book because it’s all about an info dump to set you up for the main story and to help you start caring for the main character.

The premise of this is amazing. Adrienne ends up back in time when the Minoan civilization is going strong and ends up having to adapt. She cannot speak their language and has limited understanding of their customs. With no way to get home, she gets taken under the wing of Brita.

Every character is likeable in this. At first, I was a little iffy about these two friends Adrienne had in her current time but luckily we move on quickly. Brita is super helpful to her when it comes to learning the language and customs and without her, she might as well be out at sea again… I question Kits intentions for Adrienne often but he seems to be a sweet guy that just gets what he wants most the time, with exception to anything regarding his family. Jadi has to be my favourite, he is constantly looking out for Adrienne, especially when she gets left behind..

Having a semi history lesson while reading a book is exactly how to make this interesting to me. A story with sprinkles of Minoan culture and seeing what life could’ve been like for them is amazing. Again, I’m no history major and have not looked into this any more than is in this book, but assuming this is accurate for the most part, this is great. Even if it wasn’t in any way, this is an awesome take on a culture from the time period.

I loved the added touch of the language in this. It starts off with small bits and slowly transitions to Adrienne speaking a broken language, but speaking it, none the less. Her random bouts of English are a nice flair too.

I’m excited to see where the story takes us, as the cliff hanger is not extreme, but definitely made me sad that it ended. I had a hard time putting this down once it got started.

If you find the beginning of this to be a little slow, I’d try to push through. Once she actually gets into the meat of the story it gets better. This was a slow burn which I really appreciate.
