2023 changing my rating from 4 stars to 5 because honestly what was a thinking last time?!

I remember being annoyed with everyone the first time I read it, so maybe I wasn’t understanding the cues and their situation. This time I understood and it makes it sooo much better. Yeah, the first 25% or so is a bit slow, but it is necessary to set up Basi’s personality and the situation.

Okay. This is going to be super short, because I'm already like halfway through book 2. But I wanted to write a quick note for my friends. And that note is:

Stick it out.

The opening of this book is roooooough. Basi is the worst, most TSTL, spoiled, poor-little-rich-girl character and I really, really wanted to punch her in the ovaries. I hovered on the verge of DNF for the first 25% or so because I just could not stand her.

This is a review for all three books in the series. I'll pop a spoiler warning in here, just in case. But I don't think I give anything you don't expect away.

I purchased and read all three books (well, the first was a freebie). So, I can't claim I didn't enjoy the series. Otherwise I wouldn't have continued. This book was SO SO good! I couldn’t stop reading it, I loved everything about it, the characters, the plot, the world, the writing, it was all so perfect I didn’t even noticed the time flying by. I’m immediately starting the next one.

I liked it more than the supernatural werewolf ones and am intrigued - I just hate the imprisonment/lack of choice part and would like to see her on her own feet in her own place with her own decisions for a bit in the second book - otherwise that's annoying and cheapens it. ...more
