Crazy to think how obsessed I’ve been following this series for a few years now and it’s finally come to an end. The absolute last thing I expected was for this to be such a tear jerker. I swear from about a third of the way into the book until the very last page I was an emotional (sobbing) wreck. Having met Death’s brothers making the assumption that he’d be even more cold hearted was not wrong yet I was still taken aback by his brutality and inability to see beyond his set path. Then again something we learn about Death is that he’s more connected with the world, the universe and the spirit realm than is visible. Death essentially operates more like a true reaper than his brothers and an actual hand of God. His powers are pretty limitless and he’s a horrifying but such an alluring man. Lazarus,the heroine, was a wonderful addition to the horsemen world, fitting together like a long lost puzzle piece. Throughout the book her backbone and determination to go on was truly remarkable. From the moment we meet her and she meets Death pain, revenge and heartache become her life. Being her own kind of “special” brings along its own troubles and I can’t even fathom the emotional mental mess I’d be in her position. Death is by far the most stubborn of the lot and she has a lot of work to do to make him veer off his path. No matter if he understands humans or not, the man is so stuck in his ways he refuses to see reason about anything. So frustrating but yet I also find the whole mess a major conundrum of epic proportions. Humans sucks and yeah maybe we don’t deserve the planet etc but yet it’s so hard to argue that when the horsemen bring death to everyone from little old ladies to tiny babies who barely had a chance at life. It’s so unfair and something I would never want on my shoulders. This series has been an utterly amazing journey and something I will probably never recover from. Hats off to Laura Thallasa because she’s written one hell of a masterpiece that captures humanity’s harsh and brutal reality in the midst of a very unfortunate but biblical event, when the horsemen of the apocalypse come calling. Finishing this book felt like the biggest high and lowest low at the same time. Such an epic & emotional battle only equatable to a solid day of crying and the endorphin rush when all is said and done. Can’t recommend these books enough especially this one, by far the best of the bunch and not just because of that delicious drool-worthy cover. ...more

Excellent way to end the series. Lazarus was probably my favorite of the chosen mates of the four horsemen. She was strong without being cruel. She was compassionate without being a milksop, she was passionate without being a harlot. Death was probably my favorite horseman. He killed because he had to and he was so dedicated to his god given task that he couldn't see another way and till everything was taken from him. I adored this book ...more

It took me years to finally finish this series, but I did finally finally do it.
So glad I did because I really liked this one. It honestly felt like the stories got better with each book.

this series was a rollercoaster. each book tugged at my heart strings. but deaths story broke me. i love his storyline and the way everything plays out. the end- chefs kiss. i am happy that they are happy.
