Short Review:

This is a Patrick Ness book––so, of course it's good. It's very different from his other books, but I like that he writes something new and I never know what to expect. I wasn't as blown away by it as I was by the Chaos Walking trilogy, A Monster Calls, or More Than This, but it's still great––intriguing concept, good writing and characters, a fun and emotional story. I thought this book was very clever. There are two plots; plot "A" is about a group of indie kids battling an old, immortal evil from destroying the world, which we get glimpses of in brilliant chapter blurbs, and plot "B" which is all about the characters who would normally be in the background of the action. I'm a fan of Patrick Ness. This book takes a look at what happens in the lives of all of the ordinary kids who live their normal teenage lives, while the other kids, the "indie" kids, save the world from vampires, or other life threatening fantastical creatures, who are plotting to destroy humanity.

This is a good book, and I'll certainly keep reading every book written by Patrick Ness. The Chaos Walking trilogy is still my favorite though.

The best of Patrick Ness...beautifully told with just the right amount of humor and fantasy to keep you reading well into the night.
